Valerie Khait, B.A., Lab Manager, contact email: vkhait@hunter.cuny.edu
A graduate of Hunter College, I am interested in pursuing my Ph.D. in developmental psychology. I am currently working on my MA in developmental psychology at Teachers College, Columbia University. I am particularly interested in achievement motivation and education.
Michelle Gallagher, B.A., Research Assistant
I graduated from Vassar College with a B.A. in philosophy and am now a 2nd-year student in Hunter's M.A. psychology program. I am interested in studying the social and cognitive factors that play a role in psychopathology. In addition, I am also interested in the effectiveness of acceptance- and mindfulness-based techniques in the treatment of depression and anxiety. My long-term goal is to pursue a Ph.D. in clinical psychology.
Anna Marganska, B.A., Research Assistant
After graduating from Baruch College with a degree in Human Resources Management and attending one semester of an M.B.A. Program in I/O Psychology there, I realized I could no longer ignore the call of clinical psychology, and that is how I ended up at Hunter's M.A. Program, in which I'm currently a second-year student. Eventually, I hope to obtain a doctoral degree in clinical psychology. In the field of psychological research, I'm passionate about the topic of how early trauma organizes and sensitizes the brain and how it affects attachment type and creates vulnerability to mood disorders, particularly depression and anxiety. My favorite neurotransmitter is dopamine!
Katie Surrence, B.A., Research Assistant
I am a former student in the psychology MA program at NYU, and graduated from Swarthmore College in 2001, where I majored in English and minored in psychology. In addition to my work in the Experimental Psychopathology Lab, I work at the Language Acquistion Research Center at Hunter College. I'm interested in social cognition in clinical populations, the regulation, expression, and perception of emotion, and the role of narrative in autobiographical memory and construction of self. I hope to pursue a PhD in clinical psychology.
Carrie Watters, B.A., Research Assistant
I'm a second year psychology master's student at Hunter College. While completing my BA at Georgia State University, I found that I am really interested in studying how people both cope, and fail to cope in the face of trauma and other challenges. I am also interested in studying predictive and protective factors associated with psychopathology. After graduation, I hope to continue my studies in a clinical Ph.D. program.
Alyssa Wheeler, Research Assistant
I am junior and majoring in psychology and special honors, with a minor in english. I am excited to be working in Dr. Miranda's lab. Although I am interested in psychopathology, I look forward to using this experience to assist me in finding, more specifically, where my interest lie. I anticipate pursing a Ph.D in clinical psychology. My ultimate goal is to become a psychologist and work in academia. My most recent research project was completed at the University of California, Berkeley where my mentor and I examined the stigma of mental illness labels.
Michelle Yakobson, Research Assistant
I am a junior at the Macaulay Honors College at Hunter College, majoring in Psychology and English. My research interests include the onset and treatment of anxiety and mood disorders, as well as their respective cognitive and behavioral processes. I hope to pursue a Ph.D in Clinical Psychology, and open a private practice while continuing to conduct research and teach college students.
