Frequently Asked Questions

1. How can I access ICPSR from off-campus?
 

If you are not on the Hunter network, you need to use the proxy server to get access. Proxy access is available via either of the following links:

2. How do I edit the DATA LIST command?
 

Once you have downloaded the data from ICPSR, if you intend to use the SPSS setup file, you will need to edit your Data List command.  See the following link for more details, especially Step 7:

3. Why is some data restricted?
 

Most data is publically accessible and is freely available to ICPSR members.  Data with confidential information such as names and social security numbers requires special protection.  To get access to such “Restricted” data, a user needs to follow specific guidelines.  For more details, see:
