Other Data Sources

Human Rights Campaign (HRC)

Hunter College has entered into a partnership with the Human Rights Campaign Foundation to build an archive of polling data on attitudes related to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) rights in the United States. Currently 140 polls are in the archive. Students or faculty interested in accessing these data for scholarly purposes should contact Prof. Kenneth Sherrill in the Department of Political Science.

Social Explorer

Social Explorer, available now at http://www.socialexplorer.com, provides easy access to historical census data for the United States through the use of interactive maps and reports. Developed at Queens College CUNY, Social Explorer allows users to visually analyze and understand the demography of any part of the United States with access to the following:

  • Interactive thematic maps of historical census data
  • Customized reports for any chosen area or areas (including aggregates)
  • Complete coverage of the United States, down to neighborhoods and streets
  • Simple navigation buttons and a find tool make it easy and efficient to study neighborhoods

  • Through a generous grant from SocialExplorer.com, Social Explorer users on CUNY campuses have access to additional data and reporting tools. If you do not access Social Explorer from a CUNY campus, you will not have access to these additional services.

    Gallup

The Gallup Archive ("Gallup Brain") is now available to the Hunter community for teaching, learning, and research. The Gallup Brain is a searchable, living record of 70 years of public opinion. Inside, you'll find answers to more than 136,000 questions, and responses from more than 3.5 million people interviewed by The Gallup Poll since 1935. You can access this database via: http://proxy.wexler.hunter.cuny.edu/login?url=http://institution.gallup.com
(as usual, you need your Hunter e-mail user name and password for authentication from off campus).
