Niklas Johan Westelius Assistant Professor in Economics, Hunter College and the Graduate Center, CUNY ![]() Niklas J. Westelius is an assistant professor in the economics department at Hunter College and a member of the doctoral faculty at the CUNY Graduate Center. He is also an adjunct assistant professor in international and public affairs at Columbia University. Prior to that, Westelius was an assistant professor in international economics at the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at Johns Hopkins University. His research focuses on monetary policy and theory. Professor Westelius received his BA from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1997 and PhD from Columbia University in 2002. He has also worked as an independent researcher at the Swedish Central Bank (Riksbanken) and as a consultant for the World Bank. His teaching includes international trade theory and policy, international monetary theory and policy, and money and banking.
