Teaching

I teach undergraduate and masters history courses at Hunter College, and work in various capacities with doctoral students at the CUNY Graduate Center.

At Hunter College my teaching deals with modern European history generally, and more specifically the history of Germany and Britain in the 20th century. Special subjects include Nazi Germany, the city of Berlin, and the career of Winston Churchill. I regularly do a section of the “History Practicum” on research and writing skills, and I am always trying to work new courses into my rotation. I have supervised a number of MA theses on various subjects, and also often work with undergraduates on supervised research projects (history 300 and 400) and with both undergraduates and MA students on independent study projects. Details of my regular rotation of classes appear below.

At the CUNY Graduate Center I have taught a few different courses (particulars also appear below) and serve as a dissertation advisor to several students. I regularly work with students to prepare oral exam fields (warning: I will do my best to make you work hard – and whatever else, you will come out knowing why Stalingrad was important, and you will not confuse it, as so many do, with Leningrad). At the GC as well I also regularly work with students on independent study projects.
