How to update your web pages using Netscape Composer and SSH Client (page 3)

Using SSH Client to upload your page

1. Open the SSH Secure File Transfer Client. The icon for this program should have been placed on your desktop when you installed SSH; if not, it will be in the SSH Secure Shell folder in the Programs Menu. From the File menu, select Connect and enter the Hostname, "urban.hunter.cuny.edu", and your Username. Accept the defaults for Portnumber (22) and Authentication Method (Password). Click Connect; then enter your Password and click OK.

2. If you have typed everything correctly, this should take you to a familiar, folder-tree-type view of your account on urban. Remember that all website files and subfolders should go within the "public_html" subfolder. Move to the folder (within "public_html") into which you want to upload your page, and click on the single up-arrow button on the toolbar. (In the below illustration, this button is located in the middle of the toolbar.) Or, select Upload from the Operation menu.

3. This will bring up a familiar file-selection window showing files on your PC. Use the "Look in" dropdown menu at the top to navigate to the folder into which you just saved the edited web page that you now want to upload. Highlight all the files in this folder by clicking on the top file in the list and then, while holding down the Shift key, clicking on the bottom file. Click "Upload" to upload the files.

4. Use Netscape Navigator to view your uploaded page. If you see that further changes need to be made, select Edit Page from Netscape's File menu and start the process over again.

5. When you are finished using SSH Secure File Transfer, select Disconnect from the File menu (or click on the toolbar icon that shows a monitor with a red slash across it).
